25th Anniversary Team Roping

Beautiful weather, enthusiastic ropers and contributors made for a very successful 25th anniversary event. A total of 1,027 teams competed at the 25 Anniversary event in six ropings. This represents a 32% increase from 2006 and indicates that ropers agree that the change in date was definitely the right move.

The winner of this year's 3-horse trailer went to Joel Hernandez from El Paso, Texas who was the high point roper for the weekend followed closely by Jess Gilliland and Brett Vaughn. Saddle winners for Saturday were Joel Hernandez in the #5 & under category and Tom Houghton from Cliff, NM in the #6 & above category. Saddle winners on Sunday include Jess Gilliland from Tularosa, NM for the high point #5 and under and Trey Miller from La Mesa, NM for the high point #6 and above. Each of the average winners received Frontier Trophy Buckles and second in the average received spurs donated by Bud Hettinga.

As an added bonus, this year New Mexico State University and four local women who are all cancer survivors raised over $250,000 through their "Tough Enough To Wear Pink" campaign, which all be donated to Cowboys for Cancer Research. The committee would like to thank each and every participant, volunteers and contributor. Together we will find cures for cancer.

For its 25th event, C4CR raffled a Limited Edition Silver Toyota Tundra 4X4 Pickup donated by Las Cruces Toyota -Susan & Paul Vescovo. The Winners of the Toyota Tundra Truck was a group known as the "Ruidoso Combine". You can see their photo by clicking here.

The 25th Anniversary event was C4CR most successful year ever. C4CR will make a record donation to the Cowboys for Cancer Research/Alma Cohorn Memorial Endowment at UNM Cancer Center, Albuquerque, of $350,000 to further cancer research at NMSU.
